About the Author Dr. O.P. Gupta (b. 1947) is at present working in University Grants Commission. He holds Ph.D. (Hindi) Agra and degree in Master in Library Science form AMU, Aligarh. He began his career as college librarian (1971-73); served at central headquarters, CGWB, Ministry of Agriculture (1974-80) and since December 1980 has been serving the UGC in various capacities. Dr. Gupta is a scholar, writer and is associated with a number of professional and non-professional bodies and committees. He has been working as member secretary to the panel on LIS education and to the Committee on Curriculum Development of LIC education of UGC. His publications include Dictionary of library and Information Science, Development of University Libraries in India after Independence, and Higher Education in India since Independence; UGC and its Approach.
