English summary (fourth volume): The fourth volume in the Urkunden Friedrichs II (Documents of Frederick II) includes diplomas and mandates dating from September 1220, when Frederick returned to Italy, up until August 1222. Made up of 272 documents it chronicles Frederick's journey to Rome, his imperial coronation, the declarations of the Hoftag zu Capua (Imperial diet of Capua), which with its edict of revocation brought about the confirmation of a host of privileges, and Frederick's return to the Kingdom of Sicily. The many documents dating from this two year period bear witness to Frederick's efforts to establish order in the affairs of the Kingdom of Sicily, as well as to his desire to make clear the imperial claim beyond the borders of the Sicily and further to the north. Particularly well known amongst this collection of documents are the regulations on the protection of churches and the clergy, the so called "Krönungsgesetze" (Coronation laws) (D 705), which Frederick II issued in Rome on the day of his coronation as emperor. Also of note are the numerous diplomas drawn up in the wake of the Assizes of Capua, which include complete listings of the possessions (e.g. DD 667 and 747) of up to 250 towns, monasteries and churches.
