Patakín are stories central to Ifá divination in Cuba, representing a rich legacy left by the Yorùbá-speaking peoples who arrived to the island enslaved. In Cuba, they called themselves the Lukumí. The religion of the Lukumí comprises two worship institutions, or reglas: The Regla of Ifá and theRegla of Osha, each with its particular liturgy and hierarchies of authority. Babalawos, Iyalorishas,and Babalorishas consolidated the reglas in earnest from the 1840s to the 1880s, and the two institutions reached their modern form between the 1880s and 1900 Brown 2003b: chaps. 2 and 3.
