After three months of suffering, Ayer's daughter was laid to rest on December 29, 2003. On the advice of their attorney, Ayer and his wife began this journal after their daughter entered the hospital; but they put it to rest for two months until February 2004, when they learned what actually happened in that surgery room.In 2005, Florida conducted a licensing hearing in Sarasota. They attended, heard the sworn testimony, and at that point had a legal record of what happened in the surgery. But the Ayers did not receive justice or closure.
