This is a collection of short stories by Thomas Harley. The five stories in the first half of the book are adapted and expanded from actual events in the author's life. During World War II, the author, then a young, teenage boy, attended a United States Army War Show at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. As an older boy, he often rode in the buddy seat of his best friend's motorcycle. Much later in his life, in October, 1989, the author attended a friend's wedding in Berkeley, California, on the Saturday after the Richter 6.9, Loma Prieta earthquake. The six stories in the second half of the book are not based on actual events. They are about a retired Palo Alto police detective who has been identified in the local press as "Palo Alto's own Hercule Poirot". He is now working part time for the Holmes and Watson Detective Agency. Most of his work there is very routine, and he spends his spare time trying to write a detective novel. Finally, he gets involved in solving a series of murders.
