Unwrapping the objects my mother selected for me when she packed up Mimmie's trailer, pausing to find a special place for a well-worn incense burner, a set of tea bag holders, and an elegant vase shaped to look like a dark-haired woman whom Mimmie often said resembled me, I came across the recipe box. I collected postcards and photographs, and my sister contributed illustrations. The manuscript grew to more than 200 pages. I eventually drew on the material to write some separate short stories, and one of them appeared in Kaatskill Life. Recently I decided to select 10 vignettes, 16 recipes, and 20 graphics, and fashion it all into a little book. This publication is the result of that effort.
