He fought Hitler's regime again in World War II as a paratrooper with the 17th Airborne. After his return from the battlefields of Europe, Homer continued his work for social justice - for the Afro-Americans' right to vote and for workers' rights to unionize in the South in the 1940s and early1950s, and later in the North.
