Dark is the Night is the centrepiece film for this exhibition. Shot over six months, it shows footage of empty and dimly lit Soho streets set against a narration by Lucy, a transsexual prostitute, who describes her experiences of working in Soho.Baseman's other films are shown on separate floors of the gallery. The Dandy Doctrine (A Delightful Illusion) features self-described dandy Sebastian Horsley describing his relationship with Soho. Nasty Piece of Stuff narrated by activist Alan Wakeman, charts Soho's shifting attitude to the gay scene.By using his unique documentary format, Baseman's work acknowledges the history of Soho while placing the area firmly at the heart of London today.
