Man, Wife & Wife is a Speculative Theology, and a reasonable treatise on the subject of Plural Marriage, from an Evangelical Christian perspective not bound to a denomination or modern cultural demands. I have to say it is open-minded as well, because it follows the edict that we are called to always examine the Scriptures with a mind toward allowing them to change us, not us change them, as is too often the case. The source material for this volume is primarily the Scriptures, but relying heavily upon the Scriptures as seen through the eyes of fellow believers throughout history. We don't want to be found trying to tell the Bible what we believe, although that is what our culture demands. In a court of law, as a witness, you may be asked, "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?" Then some lawyers will try to limit the amount of the truth you are allowed to tell, to contort your account to fit their narrative. In the case of this examination, I really do want to tell the Whole Truth, so help me God. So, buckle up, cause it could get bumpy. If we are truly Christians who want to grow in Grace and the knowledge and understanding of the Word and Will of God, we have to let the Scripture tell us what to believe, what to think, how to live, and what to share, and to do it all with logic and reason, or we can decide what they have to say. This is one of those subjects that many in the Church - or the church - may think is decided and closed, but that is only true if the answer among the congregation is correct in consensus and conclusive in Godly understanding. But in the matter of taking an additional wife, the matter is neither closed, or in consensus, and it isn't remotely conclusive in Godly understanding around the world . . . not even around the modern Christian world. Inside the Body of Christ there is diversity and disunity, and it is the goal of this writing to bring the Words and Will of God into closer, sharper focus, so that Unity and University may be found.
